Research and Development Headquarters

As a leader in drug discovery for treatment of viral and infectious diseases with key focus on the hepatitis C virus (HCV), Idenix Pharmaceuticals engaged LAB to assist in site selection for their global R&D headquarters and to plan and design their new laboratories and office space. Working with TRG Builders as construction managers, we completed the 40,000 sf renovation of the fourth floor of 320 Bent Street in Cambridge MA, a property of BioMed Realty Trust, Inc. The project included the restoration and reconfiguration of existing laboratory space, the creation of a new H-3 occupancy to house chemistry research, BL-2 laboratories and tissue culture suites, a laboratory for a shielded 400kHz NMR, a 100-person lunch room and all-hands meeting space, and mix of enclosed and open office areas. Using DIRTT demountable glass office fronts, the deep interior has maximal access to natural light. The signature space in the design is the new reception area and elevator lobby which employs a striking sculpted wall, down-lit to create a swirling pattern of light and shadow.
